Congratulations!!

These scholarships are awarded to seniors that have played youth hockey in the past--for either Irondale or Mounds View. They write an essay about the impact of Youth Hockey on their lives. The Board of Directors review the essays, and rank them. We give what funds we have available for college scholarships. They scholarships are then awarded to the seniors during their school Senior Recognition events.

Hockey Clinic Info City of New Hope
by posted 06/02/2009

A hockey clinic opportunity is available called D-1 Development for the week of August 3-7 at the New Hope Ice Arena in New Hope.  This is a very fast past program with a low player to coach ratio which has been offered to boy’s & girl’s over the past 5 years in the south metro area of the Twins Cities and they are trying to expand to other areas this summer.  The clinic staff is led by Pat Madigan who is a former Division I hockey player at Providence University and has coached hockey for over 15 years at many levels.   He has had very good reviews and has coached many of the top Minnesota high school players during those five years. This year he has also assembled a very impressive staff of instructors that includes Nick Oslund and Chris Hepp from the SCSU Huskies Men’s Hockey Team.

This link provides more information and registration information

Thanks for your time!

Summer Skills Session from Buzz Hockey
by posted 05/30/2009

BUZZHOCKEY'S 2009 SUMMER HOCKEY TRAINING BEGINS JUNE 8 with a staff that is excited and geared up to help our skaters and goalies develop to their personal best this summer. In addition to our head coaching staff of John Bazzachini, Chris McKelvie (Irondale alumni), Steve DeBus and Kevin Gorg, we will be having some additional coaches dropping in as their schedules permit.

One coach in particular that all the kids love is Zach McKelvie (Irondale alumni) who graduated from West Point in May after being honored with the prestigious Army Athletic Association Trophy which is awarded to a male or female cadet who displays the "most valuable service to intercollegiate athletics during a career as a cadet."  Zach will be home for a couple of weeks in June and will be coming back to work with some of our skaters. In addition to Zach, our skaters and goalies will be seeing Josh Harding from the Minnesota Wild who will be coming out in July; Ace Gregg and Joe Vannett of Concordia College in June.

Sessions 2, 10, 11 are filled and closed, however, we still have a couple of openings left for some age levels in our program. We also have limited space in our 3 v 3 leagues. Also, for those new to our program, don't forget that your skater can make up any missed ice times in any other age appropriate session throughout the summer. No need to worry about scheduling conflicts or vacations. Those missed ice times can be made up. Good for your finances and good for your skater's development!

You can still register today by visiting out website at www.buzzhockey.com  or giving our office a call at 763-509-0951 for more information or availability.

See you this summer on the ice!

Message From The New IYHA President
by posted 04/21/2009

Greetings from the President – Kevin Bourassa

I am honored to have been selected President of the Irondale Youth Hockey Association.  I look forward to the opportunity to serve you over the next two years.  We have a wonderful group of athletes, coaches, and parents. The time is now to grasp the opportunities we have before us and make this organization grow and succeed.

I would like to thank the outgoing board members Tom Lucarelli, Jean Aukee, Bob Gabler and Jeanne Falconer.  Your service to our organization has been great.  I would also like to thank the current board for their continued commitment to IYHA.  Lastly, I would like to thank everyone else that makes up our association from players, parents, and volunteers.  We need EVERYONE to make this association successful.

The theme I used during the campaign was EXPECT MORE AND DO MORE.  I think we can increase our expectations of everyone within our association.  With increased expectations we all will need to pitch in and DO MORE.  If we want to see improvement in the association there is plenty of opportunities for EVERY family to pitch in and make it successful.

Our goal is to create the best hockey association that we can.  To be the best that we can ON the ice, there are opportunities for everyone OFF the ice to participate.  We need to create a strong support structure for our players to compete at their highest possible level, we need people helping with coaching, fundraising, securing sponsorships, volunteering, working parades, at schools, or whatever your skills can provide.  In these times we need to use all of our resources wisely.  Think about were you fit within the association, and DO MORE.  Let’s leave no stones unturned for our players.

Finally, over the summer get the kids outside playing, rollerblading, skating when possible, shooting and stick handling and they will be able to have more success on the ice come the fall.

With EVERYONE'S help we can accomplish our goals as an association.

Feel free to contact us with where you feel you can fit in and help out or with your concerns.

Sincerely,

Kevin Bourassa

President IYHA
