Hello,

 

I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday break and is recharged for the second half of the hockey season. Now are the times for our teams to really focus on playing solid hockey and building on the practices and skills that have been worked on over the last couple of months.

 

The weather has been prefect for outdoor ice which is exactly what young hockey player’s need – no structure, no drills - go out and just play the game and enjoy it.

 

Congratulations to the 14U girls on their top ten ranking and also to the Peewee A team’s third place finish in the Albert Lea tournament.

 

A reminder that there are four board positions up for election in April. More information and posting on these positions will follow on the web. Please consider being a candidate if you have any interest serving on the IYHA board.

Website News:

 

Clock Simulator – our website has on online clock simulator just like the ones used at the SuperRink.  You can add/remove penalties, run the clock, add/remove scores, and even blow the horn!  There is an instruction sheet also.  Go to the Hey Coach Section along the left hand side of the home page.

 

Rinks – many new features have been added to our rink locations.  There are links to ATM’s, Restaurants, Hotels, etc.  These come directly from Google.  The map icon also comes directly from Google and is based on the address of the rink relative to the zip code 55112 (New Brighton/Mounds View).  If you find that for some reason the information is incorrect, please use the Feedback button and we will investigate the issue.   It is usually a quick and easy fix.

 

Printable Rink Locations – you can print out the rink locations by using the print button.  You can also sort them by Rink Name or by City.  Click on the top of the column to get the sort you want, then click on the print button.  It is helpful to print a copy and leave it in your car.

 

Text messages – don’t forget that you can get a text reminder to a game or practice or both which arrives 1-1/2 hours before the event.  The text will include the rink location and address.  If a game/practice is cancelled, you will also get a text cancellation notice.  To sign up, use the Feedback button on the home page.

Email address – you can add as many emails as you want for notifications/messages.  You can also remove any that you no longer need.  Use the Feedback button on the home page to make your change request.

 

Team info – Your team information is available to you.  Go to your team page, click on Rosters on the left hand side, scroll to the bottom, and enter your email address and password you used to register.  If you did not register online, use the generic team password that is set up for each team.  Each team should have received that information by now.  If you need your generic team password, use the Feedback button on the home page.

 

 

Election in April

 

Attention all Association Members:  Four board positions will be available in the April election.  They are President, Secretary, Initiation Coordinator and Registration Coordinator.  Please be thinking about your interest in these positions or someone to be nominated.  We will be forming a nominating committee and sending out more details soon.  Thanks!

Irondale Youth Hockey Association December Meeting Minutes:

 

IYHA Meeting Board Meeting:  December 18, 2008.  Note: These minutes have not been approved. They will be reviewed, corrected as needed, and approved at the next regular Board of Directors Meeting.

 

Called to order at 6:54 p.m. by President Tom Lucarelli.

 

Board Members Present:  Tom Lucarelli, Jean Aukee, Monica Crandall, Chris Drews, Mike Nundahl, Tom Johnson, Kara Chamberlain and Bob Gabler

 

Board Members Absent:  Mark Rupp, Theresa Spiering and Jeanne Falconer

Minutes:  Motion to accept board meeting minutes as presented (CD) (TJ); all accepted; motion carried. 

 

Old Business:

 

A.       Election Process – Chris Drews  - per his handout, TJ motioned to approve, MC second – all accepted, motion carried.

 

B.       Future of IYHA – Rick LaPorte – not present – find out from Rick when meeting will be and where - send out email to membership – should to be done by January 15th.  Kara C question why did MV and IYHA spit up before? They used to be together as Lake Region – originally separate and then merged – if done this time, would have to be documented.  Torri talked to Rick – he didn’t know he was on the agenda.  He is working on putting the January meeting together.

 

C.      IYHA Handbook – board approval/post on website – per Tom, handbook should still reference only district 1 because that is who we are even though we sometimes play district 2 teams in games.   Tom brought up the Edison kids on page 3 of the handbook – Jean mentioned that discussion is on the agenda for the January meeting.  Discussion regarding kids waiving in and if they get to play on an A team or not.  Jean still needs to update the board of directors section – should be just titles without names.  Mike made a motion to post the current handbook on website.  Jean seconded and ask to amend Mike’s motion to read current handbook approved and posted on website.  The reason it was never posted was because it was never officially approved.  If changes are needed we will deal with them as they arise.  Jean second – all accepted, motion carried. 

 

New Business:   

 

1.       Website Info – Torri Johnson – any info for the January tournament to go on website?  Monica waiting for updated brackets – should be done soon – volunteer schedule almost ready too.  Torri received 3 or 4 new registrations for mites and mini mites – Jeanne F will have more work to do.  Email from mini mite to Torri when moved up to c mites - Bob needs to communicate to his managers because they were made managers after managers meeting.  Add to website information on other assns and what their requirements are for volunteer policies so others can compare.

2.       Torri purchased 3 banners for the SSR rink 4  – Irondale Knights big banner, Bantam C district 1 champions and Pee Wee A District 1 Regional Participants – use marketing or lake region money, decide in January how to reimburse Torri.

3.       Removed other 2 agenda items because the Dulins could not attend the board meeting – Chris gave an update on the issues that were going to be discussed – calendar sales and Fuddruckers.  Fundraising activities need to go thru the fundraising committee – team managers have picked up their calendars and they are selling them at the HS boys and girls games – will try to sell them at the January tournament too – Chuck a Puck in January may be same as Thanksgiving – IYHA and MV do together and each keep their own monies.

 

Board Roundtable:

 

President: Tom Lucarelli. – Ramsey County Ice Contract 2008 to 2009 – Tom sent to Jean to print and file in secretary’s box.  Kara – do we have contracts for other ice arenas?  All have different cancellation policies.  Torri may have.

 

Vice President: Monica Crandall. – Volunteer policy will be changed and updated for next year, 15 slots not filled for Thanksgiving tournament – managers had to scramble and fill them.  For January tournament we will still need volunteers – some may think they are done – send out reminders before the tournament – need to put in hours or your check will be cashed on ____ date.  Fuddruckers Fundraiser made $285.  Wild program sales made about $1000 and then Treasure Island will match $1000.

 

Secretary: Jean Aukee. – Reminder that input for the newsletter is due on the 1st of each month.  If you don’t have anything, please reply to Jean’s email saying that.  If you have a written report that can be emailed to Jean for the minutes, please do so.  Thanks. 

 

Treasurer: Theresa Spiering. – see report emailed from Theresa – only $5000 made on Thanksgiving tournament?  Maybe only raffle tickets or something?  Will need clarification from Theresa. 

Boys Program Coordinator: Mark Rupp. – not here – no report (found Mark’s report in my inbox after meeting – w/b sent as addendum to minutes.)

 

Girls Program Coordinator: Mike Nundahl. – U12’s were second in Hastings tournament – January 23rd Youth Appreciation Night for HS – Rink 5.  U8 and initiation still need more numbers – please recruit your friends that live in MV or NB.

 

Initiation Program Coordinator: Bob Gabler. – 4 new registrants – mites and U8 – within the last week.  Worried coaches without level 1 certifications – will there be a special session?  Per Chris – probably not – they need to have them by 12/31/08 – some coaches may need to leave – must have because on our insurance.

 

District Representative: Chris Drews. – good meeting at Moes – playoffs start February 18th – Bantams A and B, PeeWee A and B – District 1 and District 2 fees – searching for new head coach in chief – need level 4 coaching certificate – Chris needs to find 7 volunteers for Regional Tournaments in Richfield – March 7th – 1:45pm to 9:30pm – District 1 is hosting Bantam A and Bantam B Regionals – (remaining notes in this section were removed due to updated information at the January Board Meeting).

 

Ice Commissioner:  Kara Chamberlain. – Questions – Augsburg needs 2 week notice for cancelled ice or we pay for it – Sunday December 21st 8:45 AM and a few others.  Problem with ice times distributed for the boys – still need to watch shared ice and levels – offer it half price to some teams?  Another question – ice not filled – can parents buy ice and use for a family gathering – if we sell it are we still liable?  If the rink would release IYHA from liability then we could do it otherwise not.  Maybe MV would like to buy some of this ice.  Third Question - Can’t be more than 2 Pee Wee teams on ice at a time?  That is not true – no rule to that effect.  Kara should not have to deal with team managers or coaches harassing her about ice times – they need to deal with their respective coordinators – Kara has done a phenomenal job with Torri – if she needs help she will send emails to Mark and cc Tom.  Teams are responsible for the ice that has been assigned to them.   

 

Registration Coordinator:  Jeanne Falconer. – Not here and no report

Player and Coach Development: Mark Rupp. – not here and no report (found Mark’s report in my inbox after meeting – w/b sent as addendum to minutes.)  Jeff’s handout – Jeff has done a very nice job on this and we can still make improvements – Bantams and PeeWees don’t need as much skill development.  Communication issue with skills content – Jeff sending info to Torri and she would send out – has Jeff been doing this?  Jeff needs the information from Tadd so this can happen.

 

Lake Region: Theresa Spiering. – Jeanne’s sent email to Jean – The Willard Fund recipients were chosen.  There were 7.  At this time, I don't know how many are from each association.  The association treasurers will receive a check and the necessary detail.  LR has entered the next level of taxes, so more of the money will go to taxes.

Fundraising Committee:  Monica Crandall.   Polly Hanson Stamp It Up Party update – fundraising committee still finalizing plan.

$175 membership to Chamber of Commerce – Chris moves to continue membership Bob seconds all approved motion carried.

New Brighton Park and Rec - $20 to play out door hockey – why are we advertising them on the website?  We should have them give us the money and send their kids to our program.  Bob will monitor and see how it works out.

IYHA Board Report

December 2008

 

Regular Monthly Boys Coordinator Report

Coaches – We have less than a handful of coaches (boys and girls) who still have not updated their CEP levels.  If this is not done before December 31st, they will not be allowed on the ice.  Many coaches have taken care of this task, but USA hockey is quite a ways behind in updating their system of reporting.  A number of notes and reminders have been sent to coaches concerning this issue.  Also, please pass along payment receipts to me for reimbursement of CEP clinics.

Teams - Teams have started District play, and many have already started to compete in various tournaments.     Our PWA team won the consolation championship during our Thanksgiving tournament.  The PWB team recently won 3rd place during the Fairmont tournament, and our PWC team won 1st place also during the Fairmont tournament.  Our SQB team won 3rd place in the Wadena tournament.   It is nice to see some hardware brought back from these tournaments.  I hope I have not forgotten any of our other teams’ successes.   More tournaments will take place over the next 45-60 days.  Overall our kids are doing well!

Ice distribution meeting -   Shortly after our last board meeting, the three coordinators along with our new ice commissioner agreed to meet and distribute ice for the reminder of the season.  I became quite ill and was not able to attend this important meeting.  I want to publicly thank Kara, Mike and Bob for distributing the ice in my absence.  I think they did a wonderful job.  Do we have some hiccups, yes, but in the long run everything will work out great.  I look forward to working with Kara in the future to determine the ice needs for our kids.

HEP Materials – The materials have been ordered and will be distributed to upon delivery.  Materials are included for both coaches and parents.

Skills clinics – The skill clinics for the PW’s and Bantams will be ending at the end of December.  They will continue through the end of the season for the remaining IYHA teams. 

Clinic practice plans – Jeff Opperman (PCDC Chair) has been working closely with Tadd to receive these materials in a more timely manner in order to get it on the web be the Friday prior to he clinic.  Jeff is confident this will be happening. 

Goalie training – A set of dedicated goalie training is being set up and will be announced soon.  Matt Millar was at our last clinic this past Monday to work exclusively with our goalies.  From all reports, this went well.
